Seattle Junior Totems

Despite being down to the Tri City Titans 2-1 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday the Seattle Totems battled back to win both games by scores of 4-3 and 5-4 at the Toyota Center in Tri Cities. Special teams played a big part in the victories as the Totems scored on 4 of 9 powerplay chances.

Friday night the Totems were led on the scoreboard by Shawn Pauly with 2 goals and 1 assist, captain Tanner Schulze (1g, 1a), Kyle Stoumbaugh (1g, 1a) and Jake Radermacher (1g, 1a) potted the game winner.

Saturday night Spencer Galvin continued his push towards the top of the NorPac scoring race with 2 goals. Galvin finds himself in 4th place in scoring behind Schulze (37 pts), Stoumbaugh (36 pts) and Eugene's Michael Frei (32 pts). Chris Beede got the Totems rolling early in the first period but the Titans jumped out to a 3-1 lead. A shorthanded goal by Nick Guzman exiting the penalty box tied it up for Seattle before Kyle Stoumbaugh finished them off with 1:47 remaining in the game. Quinn Snider also picked up 2 big assists on the night.

Nick Cafrelli stepped right in after just one practice with Seattle and earned both wins in goal posting an outstanding .917 save percentage.

The Totems next home games are Tuesday, November 25th and Wednesday the 26th vs the River City Jaguars. These two games will begin a grueling 5 games in 6 night stretch that Seattle must endure.

The 14-2-0 Pacific division leading Seattle Totems added goalie Nick Cafrelli, forward Paulos Shiferaw and defenseman Josh Prather to the roster this week.

The Totems traded forward Phil Harezlak to the Rogue Valley Wranglers for 1989 born goalie Nick Cafrelli of Fremont, Ca. The need to seek out a goalie was brought on by recent injuries to Kevin Maile, 8-1-0(upper body, 3-4 weeks) and Chris Beadles, 5-1-0 (knee, season).

1989 born forward Paulos Shiferaw of Seattle, Wa. rejoins the Totems from the Quesnel Millionaires of the BCHL. Paulos last played for Seattle 3 seasons ago prior to signing with the Surrey Eagles.

Josh Prather, an 89 born defenseman from Kent, Wa. rejoins the Totems after spending a season with the Princeton Posse of the KIJHL.

Head Coach Murphy stated "After first losing promising young forward Kyle Peterson last week to a potentially season ending knee injury on top of an upper body injury to F David Castellion(3-4 weeks) we needed to bring in some players. Paulos will be able to step right in with an understanding of our program and should provide some immediate assistance. Josh Prather returning to the lineup is an instant upgrade to our blueline. Josh first played in the league at 15 and brings steady play, toughness and tremendous leadership to our backend.

"We have liked Cafrelli since last year and when two of our three tenders went down we needed some instant help. Nick has shown the ability to stay focused and battle hard while in Rogue Valley and seems to be able to come up with that big save. He and Billy Long will have to pull the weight for now. Once we found out that he was available it was a trade that we had to make".

"Although we have gotten of to a good record our play is still subpar at times and these three players will give us more depth to the lineup".

The Totems are extremely happy to welcome Nick Cafrelli and welcome back Paulos and Josh to the Totems family.

The Pacific division leading Seattle Totems (12-2-0) endured their first loss on home ice last weekend to the visiting Eugene Generals (8-3-0) sandwiched between wins over the Lakers (3-7-0) Thursday and Eugene on Saturday.

The weekend started early on Thursday night when the Couer d'Alene Lakers paid their first visit of the season to Olympic View Arena. Seattle came out on top 6-2 fueled by big Jon Carpenter's(6g, 4a, 47pim) hat trick and 4 assists for Spencer Galvin(13g, 13a). Chris Beadles(5-1-0) picked up the win in the pipes stopping 40 shots.

Friday night brought the 2nd place Eugene Generals to Seattle and despite a good effort in the 3rd period including the game tying tip in by Jake Radermacher on an Eric English shot at the 19:19 mark the Totems suffered their first loss at home in overtime. Kevin Maile(7-1-0) turned aside 35 shots in the loss. This was only Mailes 2nd loss in the last two seasons for the Totems, he has been a spectacular 27-2-0 since rejoining the Totems last year.

On Saturday the Totems set out to turn the tables on Eugene but found themselves looking at a 3 goal deficit by the 9:31 mark of the first period. Spencer Galvin finally put the Totems on track with a goal at 10:17 enroute to a hat trick including the game tying and game winning goals. League leading scorer Tanner Schulze had 3 assists and Quinn Snider potted a goal and 2 assists as well. Kevin Maile made things right picking up the win.

Special teams played a huge role in all three of these games with the Totems division leading powerplay (22.83%) scoring on 7 of 23 chances and the top penalty killing units (89.08%) giving up only 3 goals on 21 attempts by the opposition. Tanner Schulze (34 pts) pulled ahead of Kyle Stoumbaugh (31 pts) in the NorPac scoring race and with Spencer Galvin (26 pts) picking up steam Seattle boasts the top three scorers in the league. Quinn Snider (4g, 9a) is tied for the scoring lead among defensemen.

The Totems next play the Tri City Titans this Sunday at 6:30pm at Olympic View Arena.

The Pacific division leading 10-1-0 Seattle Totems return home for a four game home stand facing the Lakers of Couer dAlene in a special Thursday night tilt. Game time is 8:15pm

The 3rd place Lakers gave the Totems their first loss of the season this last Friday night in 10-7 shootout. Seattle bounced back on Saturday night to defeat the Lakers 5-1.

Friday and Saturday night the Totems will square off with the #2 team in NorPac, the Eugene Generals(6-2-0) at 6:30pm both nights. 

This 2 game series should be exciting as these two teams boast arguably the top three forwards in the division with Kyle Stoumbaugh and Tanner Schulze(Seattle) and Michael Frei (Eugene). This weekend will also showcase the top four goaltenders in the west with Kevin Maile(5-0), Chris Beadles (5-1) vs Kevin Aslett(4-1) and Nolan Ohmart(2-1). With the Totems and Generals leading the League in shots and special teams these games will be high paced, high scoring old school hockey.

Game time Thursday is 8:15pm. Game time Friday and Saturday is 6:30pm. Next game for Seattle will be Sunday 11/2/08 vs the Tri City Titans at 6:30pm at Olympic View Arena.

The 6-0-0 NorPac Pacific division leading Seattle Totems return home for games this Friday and Saturday night vs the Rogue Valley Wranglers and will play the River City Jaguars on Monday night October 13th at Olympic View Arena. All games will have warmups at 7:35pm with the game puck dropping at 8:05pm.

Since opening the season 2-0 at home the Totems have beaten last seasons Pacific division championship series rival Tri City Titans 7-6 and 2-1 in a pair of exciting overtime games in Tri Cities and collected a pair of wins over the River City Jaguars this last weekend 4-3 and 6-3. Seattle was led by the outstanding efforts of newcomers David Castellion and Jake Radermacher and league leading scorers Kyle Stoumbaugh and Tanner Schulze up front. Quinn Snider netted a pair of goals from the blueline in Portland including the game winner on Friday night. Both Kevin Maile and Chris Beadles have been superb splitting games between the pipes.

Coach Chris Wilson stated "While it is tough to be the home opener for both Tri and River City the team has stayed focused on their goal of winning the Pacific division and earning a return trip to Jr. A nationals in Boston this season. As the defence continues to improve each night it won't be long until we can hopefully get a little breathing room in some of these games".

Head Coach Mike Murphy also quoted "Stoumbaugh and Schulze continue to set the bar high for all of the players on the team. With the addition of Castellion and Radermacher into the Totems lineup we are showing good depth. With 11 rookies, six of them 92's, on the team many had counted us out but we don't just add players, we add impact players. If they are in the lineup, they can play at this level. We have put a lot of pressure on the young guys to perform and they are doing what we are asking of them. This kind of depth is what will take us to the top of the Pacific division".

Tickets for all home games will be $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for children from 7-18 and free for those under 7 and all active military personnel.

The Seattle Totems won both games in Tri Cities by scores of 7-6 in OT and 2-1 in double OT. Both game winners were scored by Spencer Galvin on the heals of stellar efforts by both Tanner Schulze and Kyle Stoumbaugh. Kevin Maile played outstanding on Saturday night preserving the 2-1 double OT win for the Totems.

On Friday night October 3rd Maile(3-0-0) once again backstopped Seattle to a 4-3 victory over River City in Beaverton, Ore. David Castellion from Billings, Montana turned in an exceptional effort in putting Seattle on the board with his first two goals as a Totem. Quinn Snider put the game away late in the 3rd period with his first goal of the season. Seattle killed off numerous River City powerplays including a six  minute 5-3 that was mysteriously called towards the end of the 2nd period when Seattle was in full control of the game.

The Totems continue their winning ways despite not having Eric English, Kale Barr and highly touted Kyle Peterson in the lineup.

Seattle and River City square off again tonite at Valley Ice in Beaverton @ 7:05pm. This game can be heard through the River City Jaguars website.

The Seattle Totems swept cross sound rival Puget Sound in the opening weekend of play for the 2008/09 season.

Friday night began with the visiting Tomahawks jumping out to a 4-1 lead by the midway point of the game but the Totems shook the opening night jitters and scored 6 unanswered goals to come back and win the game 7-4. The game was largely a special teams contest with Puget scoring 2 of its 4 goals on the power play and Seattle scoring 3 of their 7 on the powerplay.

The Totems scored on 3 of 6 powerplay chances and picked up 2 shorthanded goals, one of which was scored by Sam Ballenger from his knees that brought the big opening night crowd to their feet. Spencer Galvin produced the first Totems hat trick of the season with 2 PP goals and a shorthander. Kyle Stoumbaugh, who set the record for NorPac scoring last season started right where he left off collecting 5 assists. Tanner Schulze also had a strong game picking up a goal and 3 assists as well. Kevin Maile got the win in net turning aside 34 of 38 shots.

Saturdays 6-2 win was all Totems from the onset outshooting the Tomahawks 20-8 in the first period and going ahead 2-0 at the end of one with powerplay goals by Shulze and Galvin. The second period was more even in shots at 13-10 yet Seattle picked up a goal each from Schulze and recent addition Jake Rademacher. In the third period the Totems special teams were at it again collecting 2 shorthanders from Jon Carpenter and Stoumbaugh outshooting Puget 21-8. Chris Beadles got the win posting a .923 sp effort stopping 24 0f 26 shots.

Head Coach Mike Murphy quoted "Our special teams were exceptional this weekend going 5 for 13 on the pp. While I am not that happy giving up any goals to another team on their powerplay, we did hold them to just 2 goals on 22 chances and picked up 4 shorthanders on the way to a couple of big wins for us to start the season. To see the vets like Stoumbaugh (1g, 7a), Shulze (3g, 4a, gwg), Galvin (4g, 2a, gwg), Carpenter (2g, 1a) and Ballenger (2g, 1a) lead the team out of the gate was a good sign for us but the outstanding play of some of the rookies like Anthony Patt, David Castellion, Shawn Pauly and John Dennis really made a difference for us"

The Totems take the ice next weekend in Tri Cities. The Titans lost to Seattle in the Pacific division championships last season and will be looking to get a little revenge against the Totems.

The Totems next home game will be Friday, October 10th vs the Rogue Valley Wranglers.

The Seattle Totems acquired F Jake Rademacher from the River City Jaguars today for the rights to F Chip Petrino. 

Rademacher who was born in 1989 in Moorhead, Minnesota is a 5'11" 177lb pivot who was second in scoring for the Jaguars last year with 15g, 42a and 26pims in 49 games. 18 of his assists came on the powerplay, Jake also notched 4 gwg's as well.

Head Coach Mike Murphy stated "It is not everyday that you get the chance to acquire a setup man of Rademacher's quality. Jake has shown exceptional vision on the ice and especially down low with his pinpoint passing. We were very excited to get the chance to make this trade, we felt that not only could Jake play alongside of any of our top veteran forwards such as Stoumbaugh, Shulze, Galvin or Perkins but he can help elevate the games of some of our younger forwards like Pauly, Patt and Castellion and shorten their learning curve. We are elated to welcome him to the Totem family."

The trade closes the Totem book on Chip Petrino. Chip is currently in camp with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. We wish him well.

The Totems open the season at home this Friday, September 19th at Olympic View Arena at 7:35pm.

The Seattle Totems Home opener is set for Friday the 19th of September against cross sound rival Puget Sound at 7:35pm. These two teams will face off on Saturday night at 7:35pm as well.

The 2007/08 Pacific Divison champion Totems will be returning 2 of the top 3 in NorPac scoring in Kyle Stoumbaugh (league record 142 pts), Tanner Schulze (112 pts), along with Taylor Perkins (74 pts), Spencer Galvin, Sam Ballenger, Quinn Snider, Chris Beede and fan favorite Big Jon Carpenter at forward. The Defense  will be anchored by Kjell Sherman and Eric English who has returned from a successful season with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. Kevin Maile also makes his return in goal after posting a 14-0-0 record in 07/08.

New additions to the team this season include F David Castellion (Butte's top scorer), G Chris Beadles (River City, Yellowstone), F Anthony Patt (Gilmour Prep), D Jeff McClintock (SJHA, commited to Air Force), D Ryan Mana (Whatcom), F Kyle Peterson (Ft. Vancouver), F Shawn Pauly (West Coast), F Phil Harezlak (Whatcom), G Billy Long (SJHA), F Josh Twietmeyer (SJHA), F Brandon Vandermoon (SJHA), D John Dennis (Whatcom), D Kale Barr (AJHL) and F Eric Lindberg (KVHA).

Head Coach Mike Murphy has successfully reloaded this years Totems with size and grittiness that are Seattle trademarks but this years team will have more skill and speed than any Totems team before. Coach Murphy quoted "The one element that all of these players share is a winning attitude, they all come to us from winning programs. These players know what it takes to achieve success. There are many players that have the ability to play at this level but most don't realize the commitment that is required to win consistently night in and night out. We have set the bar very high over the years and our expectations are even higher this season. To pull the Green and White over your head on game night brings high expectations let alone the fact that every opponent always brings their A game when it is time to play the Totems".
